Nihahi Ridge

A pretty nice little hike this was, with a reasonable workout for the heart , legs and lungs with some very rewarding views of mountain valleys and rivers, greenery all around and interesting rock formations at the upper end of our trail. We (Rhonda, Merv, Mark, Kevin and Cheryl) got an early start, inspired by our wise leader, Rhonda, (recently dubbed as the 'Weather Witch') who has trouble sleeping in past dawn and insisted that everyone be up early for an 08:00 start. Not a problem for this hiker but Merv grumbled about the 'ungodly hour' all day, even after his lunch hour nap! The trip out was a quiet one as we discovered that our driver, Cheryl, did not like friendly banter or comments on her driving and threatened to eject anyone who smart-cracked (Rhonda had warned us all of her temper and demanding nature.). This writer timidly acquiesced to her intimidating behaviour and behaved ALL DAY (it's true, really!!)!

At the starting point for our hike, Rhonda, feeling that this hike alone was not sufficient challenge, insisted that we leave our vehicle several kilometers from the trailhead, thus extending our 8 km hike into something more like 20! However, for young Kevin (with the overactive thyroid), this was still not enough and he made the actual summit of the mountain while the rest of us lunched below, enjoying awesome views of the western ranges. Coming back down the mountain at a run, it soon became evident that he'd brought something back - a bag full of snow which he started a one-sided snowball fight with. After we beat him soundly, the group returned to the vehicle just as the rain started to fall (Rhonda the Weather Witch no doubt responsible for this!). All in all, a really nice hike and definitely worth a repeat.

Thai Dinner Out

The dinner at Thai Sa-On was great! Having never tried Thai food before, it was an experience for the writer. A very enjoyable experience, I might add. The table was broken into groups of four so there was plenty of sharing going on with the opportunity to try new dishes. The menu was rated 1 - 3 chilis for degree of heat, which was very handy. Some folks got the 3 chili dinner items and others (me) got the no chili items. Everyone was happy.

The conversation was lively with many staying out until after the witching (traffic and weather) hour. the Medicine Man couldn't keep up, unfortunately (?), and had to leave earlier than the witches. Poor Medicine Man!
