Off to a bit of a slow start this morning, we set out with clear blue skies until... well, right until we pulled up to the trailhead. Then the cloud cover started setting in.

Originally signed up for this event, Peter decided that hiking with five women was too much excitement for him, and he raced ahead to catch up with the guys doing the Indefatigable Scramble, who had left only about 10 minutes before.

A steep and somewhat technical trail with loose rock, tree roots, and steep rocky sections, we grunted our way up to the lower lookout at 2.7km and 300m elevation gain. By that time, the sky was socked in completely, the icy wind was cutting through us, and we felt some snow flakes. We decided to defer the upper lookout for another day and headed back down.

Once at the trailhead, we decided that it was still nice enough at lower elevation to do a portion of the Upper K-Lake lakeshore trail (clockwise). We set out, ooh'd and ah'd over the cool cliff, and then stopped for lunch. By the time we were done eating, the weather had caught up with us and we were getting cold, a bit tired, and a bit cranky (ok, only some of us), so we called it a day and headed back. Once we reached the cars, the rains started, and we knew, deep in our hearts, that we'd made the right choice for the conclusion of the day.
