2012-03-16 : ECC - Beverly Height Variety Show |
---|
The Beverly Heights Variety show has been in productions for over 40 years. The 2012 version is called "In My Pefect World" It is a series of jokes and skits with a few musical numbers thrown in. It contains some off-color humor but it is all fun and gaeity. I've been there the past 2 years and want to go again. I hope that you can join me. Twas a hoot and a giggle. Next year, let's plan earlier and bring our own snack packages. There was some great looking spreads out there. |
2012-03-17 : ANDWA - Ink Pots via Moose Meadows - slow pace |
---|
11km and 220m elev gain seems innocent enough for a snowshoe. We figure information is missing in all the descriptions .... the part where it feels more like about ~300+m elev gain, then ~100m elev loss, then ~100m elev gain, and ~300+m elev loss. Someday when I figure out how to do it, I'll record the trip on a gps and take a closer look at the total amt of loss/gain.
Still, I like this hike very much in winter. For my pace, plan on spending about 6 hrs to include time for photos and enjoying the ink pots. ~Marg |

2012-03-24 : EOC - Dawson Park to Capilano Park Loop Urban Hike |
---|
We had a lovely, sunny urban hike. We started on the north side of the river from Dawson Park to Capilano Park looping back around on the south side of the river. We went approx. 9.5km in about 2 hours 15 minutes. Afterwards all 11 of us headed off to Brewsters for some well deserved lunch. Thanks for coming out & hope to see you again! |
2012-03-27 : ECC - Edmonton Restaurant Tour: Langano Skies (Ethiopian) |
---|
Join us for dinner at Langano Skies Ethiopian Restaurant. The last Tuesday of the month is their Vegetarian Buffet. They DO NOT take reservations for buffet night - it is first come first serve. We'll take our chances. Please be there promptly for 6:30 and look for the coordinator. If you don't know me, I will be wearing a white with black ECC bandana. Enjoy a traditional Ethiopian meal, eaten with your hands, and served up in the form of a stew containing lots of exotic spices. Each meal is accompanied by soft injera bread. Ethiopian cuisine is unique by way of ceremony, flavour, colour and presentation. Wot, the national dish, comes in many varieties-meat, fish, poultry or vegetable of hot pepper and spice stew which are almost always accompanied by a fermented form of unleavened bread called Injera. Layers of the bread are geometrically positioned in Mesob, or basket table, and spoonfuls of the different types of the different types of Wot are then attractively portioned out on the top of them. Then it's finger time, tearing off a piece of Injera and wrapping it around a chosen piece of meat with savoury sauce. For those not accustomed to such hot food whose ingredients include red and black pepper, cardamon, garlic and coriander, there is an alternative: Alicha is equally delicious but a lot milder and is usually made from chicken or lamb flavoured with green pepper and onion. How to: Note that ECC policy is to add 23% to the bill to cover 5% GST plus 18% gratuity. We try to get separate bills whenever we can, but that is usually not possible. The coordinator will calculate everyone's total based on what they ordered plus the 23%. If you disagree with this policy, please do not register for this event. |

ECC - Elvis Presley Comeback Tour Grand Opening
After many years of making a comfortable but quiet living playing the Elvis Impersonator circuit, Elvis' options are running out. He's been cut from the circuit because he's too old to impersonate himself the way we remember him, and after his unfortunate investment choices in Enron and Sub-Saharan Properties, he's decided to return to his adoring fans and join the other has-beens on the Alberta Casino Circuit. As a special bonus, he's had a successful double hip replacement to ensure that his pelvic thrusts are reminiscent of what was not seen on the Ed Sullivan Show back in the 1950's. Join us for this truly special show as Elvis joins us from his former life of quiet obscurity in Eyebrow, Saskatchewan. |
