Trip Log

Notes Actions
Due to a miscalculation on the part of the trip coordinator, most of us ended up at the trailhead a half hour early. Normally, this would probably be a good thing, but given that we were meeting three people AT the trailhead, and they would be arriving at the correct time, we had to kill 30 minutes. We went and noodled around on the end of the trail, where we found lots of cows. Noisy ones.

By the time our whole group was assembled, Cam's group was starting to arrive, so they were in the same situation as us. They gave us a fifteen minute lead, and we set off. It took no time at all before we were shedding layers - it went up to 20 today, and it was balmy! On we trekked until the views started opening up onto Windy Point Ridge, and then down the switchbacks to the intersection where we stopped for lunch. Soon we were joined again by Cam's group, so after we exchanged the obligatory slings and barbs, we allowed them to sit with us in our patty-infested lunch spot.

With another ten minute head-start, we hippie-walked down through the meadow, across the highway, and to the Sheep River, where we enjoyed some more wonderful views. It was right about this time that many of the group, trying to keep up with Cheryl, the sharp-witted and silver-tongued, really kicked into gear. Rumor has it that normally sweet Jane actually called Rhonda a Wagon Ho at one point, although she denies this, stating that she was just instructing Rhonda on the proper way to get a group moving again once they've settled in somewhere.

On the return walk, a very valuable lesson was shared with the group. After the trail bit a couple of the hikers, one hiker announced that she never got bit by trails... probably because she wears trail repellent. Another hiker, picking up the lead on that, realized that this was probably an excellent way to stop from falling down so often on the trail - spray the trail repellent on her butt!

As we finished off the same stretch of trail that we noodled on at the start of our day, we noticed the distinct lack of cows (especially noisy ones), and so had to fill the air with our own cow sounds. Karen would like to point out, for the record, that at an intersection, she was RIGHT about which direction we were to go, and if we had only heeded her in the first place, we could have shaved at LEAST ten minutes off our hike.
