Powderface Pass via. Powderface Creek Trail

What a perfect day for a hike - I don't know how Rhonda does that weather thing! After meeting on the street and introducing the new first timer COC members - "the BC contingent" (Benita, April & Vincent) we left early Tuesday morning to drive to Powderface Trail Head. Rhonda pointed out a herd of bears during the drive which turned out to be of course the usual cattle (however Joanne did agree that if you squinted your eyes right, you might think in the distance one of the cows might just look like a bear).

The trail followed a meandering stream uphill a good part of the way to a most magnificent mountain vista viewpoint where the group stopped for lunch in the sun, surrounded by mountains, fall colours (no red in Alberta!) and great camraderie, always a plus in the COC. A group discussion left Rhonda and Patricia deciding to supervise the packs while the rest of the group took 20 minutes to trudge up the arduous slope to reach the fantastic ridge viewpoint. Cheryl managed to lose and find her glove on the slope but unfortunately Vincent never did reclaim his lost sunglasses on the slope (note if you're hiking this trail, keep your eyes open!)

The downhill return featured the entertainment of the young songster Sean who broke into song on several occasions, accompanied by this reporter's Julie Andrews interpretation at one point (if for no other reason than to scare away bears). The group commiserated sympathetically that others had to work while we were enjoying this absolutely magnificent Fall day hike. Looking forward to the next.
