Trip Log

The six of us leaving from Calgary met promptly and set out eagerly with our crampons, harnesses and helmets. Far, far away, we drove. Two unfortunate souls who were to hook up with us along the way had to bail early due to Westie problems at Mosquito Creek. The rest of us (in three vehicles, due to carpool complications) rendezvoused up at the Columbia Icefield where the event was called on account of rain/sleet and lightning strikes (not a great time to be out on a glacier).

Four of the disappointed rendezvoused at the coffee shop in Louise, while two boneheads missed the turnoff and didn't realize what they'd done until they were almost at Banff. D'oh! All returned to Calgary in their respective vehicles, hopeful to try the trip again in August.

Highlights of the trip (from the Cheryl and Rhonda car) included a brilliant rainbow near Canmore, a mama bear with THREE cubs crossing the Icefields Parkway on the way up, and a big ol' moose parading around on the side of the Icefields Parkway on the way down. Yes, I am aware that the photo in the album is of an ELK. That photo is from Mehran and Debbie's car... we didn't manage to get a pic of the MOOSE. Good conversation (yakking) in the truck, plus a wolfed down lunch at Joe Btfsplk's in Banff (where the yakking actually ceased for approximately 3 1/2 minutes while said lunch was inhaled) rounded out the day.
