Two lucky people from today's hike got to see four black bears (mama and three babies) beside the road on the way to this hike (unfortunately, this writer wasn't one of them). The rest of us saw lots of gophers... how exciting (not).

At the trailhead, per Dave's advice, and the swarm that greeted us, we slathered on the bug spray real thick and then started out toward the Rawson Lake trailhead. A quick stop at the falls, and then we headed up into the forest on the uphill walk toward the teeny lake. Once we reached the lake, we trekked about 1/3 of the way around, part of the way in snow (with Dave and I in our sandals... which was not all that unpleasant given how warm it was today).

A quick stop for lunch where Dave demonstrated his quick-dry pants by walking into the frigid lake up to his knees, and then back down the hill. Due to weather and time constraints, we decided to take a miss on Black Prince Cirque this time, and did the Canadian Mount Everest Expedition Trail instead (which sounds much more impressive than it is). This is a short interpretive trail in between the two K-Lakes, formerly known as the Interlakes Trail until it was renamed in 1982 in honor of the first Canadian expedition to summit Mount Everest.

Rumor has it Dave, Carissa and Julie hit the Kilkenny for wind-down time after, while the rest of us scattered to our respective evening plans. As we drove up Highway 40, the rains started, and kept with us almost all the way in to Calgary, when they stopped again. I *AM* the Weather Witch.
