I called this event a Heavy Snowfall Celebration because of the enormous dump of snow we got this weekend, and celebrate we did! Amazing snow, right in the city! Yay! Thinking this would be a great opportunity for folks to try out snow shoeing, in the city, but with more mountain-like conditions, we set out. We stayed on some trail for a while, and then I challenged Larry to break trail cross-country for a while. I forgot to tell him that normally, you break trail for about 50-100 paces and then drop to the back so someone else can break trail for a while. Oops. About 2/3 of the way through our trip, Jason discovered a perfect training hill, so we stopped for a few minutes and tried out descending and ascending the hill with the deep, powdery snow. Some made out better than others, but all had a great time! Continuing on around the loop of Terwillegar Park, some of us partook of yet another fabulous training hill, while the others watched on. We then bee-lined it back to the cars after a three-hour outing. Thanks to all who came out - we had a great time!! -- Rhonda |
