COC - Riverview Trail EASY MTN BIKE

We had some novices and some experienced riders out today and we had a great time. We went up Riverview, then down Riverview, then around Paddy Flat's Campground, then back onto Riverview for a bit and then done. No matter how hard we tried, or what we made her do, Connie refused to get any kind of bleeding injury today... all we managed were a few bruises. A great group and a great day. :)

CCC - The Secret Garden

An adaptation of the classic children's novel, the Secret Garden. An original musical performance by young amateur performers from Wildwood School. Written, produced, and directed by resident teacher, Steve Martin.

At 5:30 I am getting ready to head out the door for this event after the biggest blonde moment of my life. Marty was leaving for his mountain bike event when he calls me and says "where's your car?". After trying to figure out if I could have possibly parked it someplace else, including checking visitor parking, plus checking with my building manager to make sure she hadn't had it towed for some reason, I determined that my car had been stolen. EEEEEK!!!!! I phoned Angela and asked her to take over the event, and then Sibel to let her know I wouldn't be there. I e-mailed the group to let them know I wouldn't be there. I was on hold with the police to report the car stolen when Marty says "your car wasn't here last night when I got home so I thought you were still getting groceries. the car must be at Safeway". I couldn't imagine why I would have driven over to Safeway after getting home from Talisman yesterday instead of just walking over, but I asked him to go over and check - it was at least worth looking. Two minutes after he left, I remembered where my car was... I had gone to do an install at another client yesterday morning, then parked my car over by the LRT station to go downtown to work at Talisman for the rest of the day. D'OH!!! I'd completely forgotten about it by after work, and just came home on transit like usual. So, Marty drove me over to retrieve it and insisted that I had to confess what happened in my write-up, so here it is. *blush* And now I've had to pay the worst price for it... Marty says I'm not allowed... EVER... to razz him again about misplacing his car keys.

It's 11:00 and I just got home from the play. This was easily the best Five Bucks I've spent in a long time... maybe ever. The kids' acting was really great... in a great kid-acting kind of way. The robin and "Colin"'s hysterics scene were my absolute favorites and to the boy who played Colin, I have to say you have more guts than me to do that on stage. Good on you.

The thing about watching these kids perform is that it was similar to watching kids play hockey (really trying at playing hockey, not just farting around). I don't get a lot of exposure to hockey, but most of what I get is the REALLY GOOD hockey... you know... the NHL. It is only when you go and watch a bunch of ten-year-olds play their hearts out that you get to really see how much effort and skill goes into REALLY GOOD hockey. The kids who performed tonight, and the adults who supported them, from Mr. Martin, their teacher/director, and all the other supporters, worked their buns off. They were unpolished and so charmingly human - an absolute joy to watch. So much more so than the REALLY GOOD acting that we're typically exposed to.

Sibel, let's make sure we take a group every year to see Mr. Martin's plays. It was really fantastic.
