2011-10-27 : ECC - Watercolour Painting

Meet in the front entrance of the Alberta Art Gallery at 6:50pm. I will have a leopard print scarf, but you can also take a look at my picture.
If you are late you can go to the main desk and buy your ticket.

You will need to PAY AT THE EVENT.

This is a drop-in adult art class offered by the Art Gallery of Alberta. No experience required and all materials are supplied. The theme for this class is Landed: Watercolour Resist Painting: Work with watercolour paints,
coloured inks and resist techniques to create a landscape inspired by the work of the Barbizon School of Painting. Bring in a photo of your own to explore the idea of ‘place’ in your work or work from supplied inspiration.

This is a great way to try something new or hone an existing skill!

2011-10-29 : ECC - European Market - Russian Grocery Store
The European Market and Produce is an Edmonton, Alberta based Russian grocery store. We carry an extensive selection of Russian, Ukrainian, Romanian and Polish goods imported from all over the world. Come check out their fresh locally grown produce section.

The coordinator has never been to this market before but would like to check it out. Come along if you'd like to check it out too! Meet at/inside the main entrance and look for the coordinator wearing or holding a black and white club bandana. Keep my cell number handy in case of problems. I will wait by the entrance until no later than 11:10. After that you should call to locate us inside the market.

2011-10-30 : EOC - Multiple Events
EOC - Exploring McTaggart Nature Reserve

Some might say that it was a Triple Dammed Day but the weather was great , the people fabulous and the hike was interesting and exciting. After a double dam dare, we crossed two beaver dams into the area seldom traveled in a quest to reach the far end. At a point below Twin Brooks, after crossing a third dam, we met a fellow who told us that we were standing on a house. The House was owned by Sandy McTaggart whose name it is that The McTaggart Reserve is named after. It turns out that this concrete structure was a summer home of the McT family but was seldom used and often broken into. So they had it buried in dirt and the land was donated to the U 0f A for research. Some day the house may again be opened, for research, but at present the only clue is the hill that we were standing on and a small view of a concrete form. What a great day. Thanks for coming.
EOC - South American food venue changed to Acajutla 11302-107ave

2011-11-01 : ECC - Tucker and Dale vs Evil at Metro Cinema
Tucker and Dale are on vacation at their dilapidated mountain cabin when they run into a group of preppy college kids who assume from their looks that they must be in-bred, chainsaw wielding killers and so their vacation takes a bloody & hilarious turn for the worse. Tucker and Dale are oblivious to the fact that the kids are trying to kill them, and the group continue to unintentionally kill themselves in the process, thinking that each death is by the hands of our two leads, when in reality all the guys want to do is help. Shot in Southern Alberta, fresh off its hit screening at this year's Edmonton International Film Festival, directed by actress Sally Fields' son - our city is privileged to screen Canada's only theatrical run of one of the best horror comedies to come out of the genre in recent years.

Meet inside the theatre lobby. Look for the coordinator wearing (or holding) a black and white club bandana.

2011-11-04 : EOC - Emily Murphy Park

2011-11-06 : ANDWA - Freedom 45 Party/Brunch

2011-11-09 : ECC - Stick MAN (Music Appreciation Night)

Stick MAN (Music Appreciation Night). What is a MAN? It is an opportunity to get together with other music enthusiasts and be exposed to music that you might not otherwise know about. In other words, it's awesome.

I first started coordinating MANs with the Calgary Culture Club several years ago, but the true origins of my music appreciation events goes back to high school. My grade 10 drama teacher was a very cool guy, and one thing he would do is spend the first few minutes of every class playing some kind of interesting or unusual music for us and we would lay about on the floor just listening... and then we'd talk about the music... and then we would go on with drama class. If Steve Carney, who taught drama at LTCHS in Red Deer in 1981/1982 happens to see this, please contact me. I'd love for you to know that your class had this impact on my life!

The Culture Club music appreciation events are meant to be a similar experience, although we usually sit rather than laying around, and we often visit and socialize during the music (unlike in grade 10 drama class).

All attendees submit up to 12 minutes of music that they enjoy and would like to share with others. Often the events have a theme, and sometimes they don't. When we have a theme, it might be genre-specific (ie. Blues MAN), it might be instrument-specific (ie. Sax MAN), or it might be more open to interpretation (ie. Perfect MAN, Hoochie Koochie MAN or Mystery MAN). The point is to share music you enjoy with others who you think would appreciate the opportunity to discover it. It's not a test! Choose music that you would like to share. If we have a theme, try to choose music that fits your interpretation of the theme.

On the night of the event, we'll convene at our home to share some snacks and listen to everyone's music submissions. We can accommodate up to 8 local folk, and up to 8 more will be allowed to attend "virtually". To attend virtually, you must submit your music by the cut-off the same as everyone else and all music submissions will be shared. Only the songs submitted by the people who attend in person will be played at the event (in the interest of time).

Arrive at 6:30PM for introductions and to get settled in. We'll start the music at 7:00 with a quick round-robin to introduce our songs, then we'll listen to the music selections.

Our home is small, and the atmosphere casual. We'll be sitting or laying around the living room while we listen. Bring a pillow or cushion if you like for maximum comfiness.

Everyone must contribute 8-12 minutes of music for the event.
