Nope, we didn't go to Elbow Lake and Rae Glacier. It was raining all over the mountains this morning when I got up (at 5:30), but clear in Calgary, so being the flexible event coordinator that I am, I figured we'd go on an urban hike, probably Bowmont Park, and if everyone was into it, hit the Kilkenny breakfast buffet first.

Well, naturally, by carpool time (8:00), Calgary was socked in, too, so I was officially out of ideas. When I got to carpool, though, Dave saved the day with a suggestion of heading out to Cave and Basin in Banff and doing the Sundance Canyon hike, weather permitting, and weather NOT permitting, we would just check out Cave and Basin.

So, like Mark's group, we headed out to Canmore for coffee and to decide whether to continue west. After a lovely coffee at Infuso, we decided that we would, indeed, carry on, and headed out into Banff, where we were greeted with cloudy (but otherwise dry) skies.

We did the Sundance Canyon hike (about 9km return) and then returned to Cave and Basin where Chris opened up her bottomless daypack and pulled out a snack buffet spread to rival my river float buffet. After munchies, on to Cave and Basin, where we smelled (and saw) the stinky sulphur hot springs, saw the various and sundry plants and animals that thrive in said stinky sulphur hot springs (including the snails, and a bunch of mosquito fish, and one fishy that looked like all the others but with some flourescent blue coloring on its tail (well, the water is slightly radioactive, after all), and didn't find any ice cream at all.
