Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra presents Beethoven in the Badlands: We return to the awe-inspiring Canadian Badlands to celebrate the music of Beethoven and other great composers in this spectacular outdoor event. Big music under the big Alberta sky!
Thank goodness for a great group and great conversation for events like today that turn out to be all about the journey and not so much about the destination. It was raining in Calgary all morning, lighter, and heavier, and lighter and heavier. Heading out of town, we could see darkness and gloom on some sides, and brightness and optimism on other sides. The gloom seemed to follow us as we chased the brightness all the way out to Drumheller with Stripey (aka "Sunshine") waxing poetic about how it was going to clear on time for the concert, but when we pulled into Drumheller, the sky socked in and the rain picked up. We were instructed to pull into a parking area and wait in the vehicle for a shuttle bus to take us to the venue "if the rain let up". We waited a few minutes before heading back into town to find civilized facilities, and then headed back, but as we approached, we saw a steady stream of vehicles coming FROM the venue. That, plus the RIVERS that used to be STREETS convinced us that our event should be moved to the Irish Pub we saw on the way into town. Back to the pub, where a meal and beverage were enjoyed by all. No Beethoven for us today, but we did get to hear "Lick It Up" by "Kiss" in the pub.

My next to-do is to find out what, if any, recourse we have with CPO. Perhaps we will be offered a refund or credit of some sort as I don't believe the concert actually took place.

Thanks to all who joined me for another great event gone sideways.

- Rhonda
