Summer has finally arrived in the Rockies !!!! I had no expectations from this little hike that I posted except for fresh air with spectacular views of Mount Rundle & Cascade Mountain as written in trail books – so you can imagine my surprise as I arrived at the trailhead to find a little oasis, nature at its fullest. This beautiful lake in the middle of the mountains, lush greenery surrounding it, and crystal clear water – and best of all, nobody around. There is a picnic area, so some people do know about it !!!!

Once the group from Calgary arrived, they were surprised as well. We chitchatted at the trailhead in awe of this little oasis. We started our gentle walk to the left side of the lake. The trail meanders above the shoreline, and sometimes away into the forest that surrounds the lake. We stopped many many times along the way to inhale nature’s beauty. So many big smiles !!!! The lake was so calm today that the reflections from the forest and mountains were astounding to say the least – I don’t think there is a word to describe what we saw today – you really really had to be there to see it. It took us approx 2 hours to complete our loop around the lake with our frequent stops.

Once back at the trailhead, we headed to the restaurant for lunch. Once again we were surprised for the second time of the day - a wedding procession was beginning on the patio of the bistro as we arrived. The bride was dressed in a beautiful satin gown, and lovely yellow flowers were in her hands. As we sat at our table on the patio, the wedding ceremony was taking place. After a short ceremony, the groom & bride were pronounced Husband & Wife !! I’ve come across bride & grooms getting their wedding photos at a few hiking events, but never a ceremony !! I asked Rhonda if this was a first for the club, and she believes so !!!

Our food was gourmet and good !! Most of us had the bison burger. And last, but certainly not least, I am delighted that the weather cooperated today so that the group could set their eyes on the best view in the entire Bow Valley !!!

Thank you for joining me today…. I had a wonderful time and hope you did too !!

Encounters on the trail: An oasis, birds, chipmunks, small & big fish, wildflowers, lots & lots of reflections on the lake, other hikers, Rhonda’s beetle (not Paul or Ringo !!), and a wedding ceremony !!

Happy Trails :)
